Rotary Club Photography Winners

On Monday 25 September, members of the Rotary Club of Ascot visited The Marist to present awards to pupils whose photography skills shone in this year’s Rotary Club Young Photographer of the Year competition.

For this year’s competition, girls were asked to enter three photographs which captured the theme of ‘Reflection’, with five Marist Senior pupils recognised for their entries during morning assembly.

Speaking about this year’s competition, Mr Hugo Winkler, President of the Rotary Club of Ascot said:

“As in previous years, Judges for the Young Photographer Competition, organised and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ascot, commented about the high standard of Photography submitted by pupils from The Marist School. A record number of entries were received, proving just how much good talent there is amongst our local student population.”

In the Intermediate category, Year 9 pupil Mia Shah was the winner in the Ascot area with her ‘landscape inverted in a glass’; Lucy Griffiths (Year 9) received the Runner-Up prize for her beautiful glass architecture and Rebecca Watson (Year 9) was awarded a ‘Special Mention’ for her scenic lake and wildlife reflections.

In the Senior category, Year 11 student Maria D’Agata was awarded the Runner-Up prize for her various mirrored images; Alex Bennett (Year 11) received a ‘Special Mention’ for her ‘Scenes of Bath’ and Rebecca’s older sister, Abigail Watson (Year 11) V&A Museum reflections gained her a ‘Special Mention’ award.

Congratulating the girls, Mrs Tania Bennett, Teacher of Art and Photography, said:

We are so proud of the girls who achieved such excellent results in this national competition. It is fantastic to see their talent recognised by such an organisation.”
