Course Aims

  • The course aims to develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value.  The internal workings and management of organisations and the process of decision making in a dynamic external environment are considered.
  • Business behaviour is studied from the perspectives of a range of stakeholders including customers, managers, suppliers, owners and employees.  Candidates should be aware of the external issues influencing business activity.  Business Studies draws on a variety of disciplines.
  • Candidates acquire a range of skills, including decision-making, problem solving, evaluation and, where appropriate, the measurement and management of information.
  • The course encourages students to be aware of the current structure of business and business practice in response to varying competitive environments. These organisations include: large and small; manufacturing and service; local, national and multinational; profit-making and non-profit-making.
